Senior US official says US has signed MoU with Iran; US President Trump and VP Vance signed the MoU, and so did the Iran Parliamentary Speaker Ghalibaf

Reiterates deal provides immediate opening of Hormuz and lifting US blockade on Iran. There will be a signifcant in the traffic in the Strait starting already. Hormuz opening takes time because of mines. Anticipates traffic in Strait of Hormuz will rise within 1-2 weeks. Formal signing ceremony to take place on Friday. Details of agreement will be put out within next 24-48 hours. Will launch technical discussions later this week. Relief of frozen funds and sanctions relief is tied to performance. Will know within the next 2-3 weeks whether the MoU will turn to an actual agreement. Contains possible USD 300bln rebuilding Iran fund. Want to put nuclear talks up front with Iran. Plan to keep current US military force posture during the next phase of negotiations. Agreement is to contemplate reduction of military forces upon the agreement of a final deal. Were unhappy with the job the Omanis did during negotiations before the war. US understanding is that Ghalibaf is sanctioned by the Iran Supreme Leader to sign and negotiate. US wants to see Iran taking verifable and irreversible steps. Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon is not a condition of the deal. Israel will have right to defend itself from Hezbollah attacks. Sanctions relief is not tied to any particular conduct but to Iran acting appropriately. MoU with Iran is explicit that the Strait of Hormuz will be open toll free for 60 days. US expects toll free traffic in Hormuz Strait to be part of final agreement as well. No unfrozen assets have been released to Iran by US or any other country.
