An Iranian security source has said that Iran will only consider engaging in talks with the United States if Washington fulfills commitments pertaining to Iranian conditions and provides practical guarantees, Al Jazeera reports

“The claim that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened in return for a reduction in tensions is incorrect, and the strait will not be reopened until the stated conditions are met.” The source told Al Jazeera that Tehran had previously taken positive steps that were not met by a similarly positive US response. Iran’s conditions for reviving diplomacy have been clearly communicated to the US by Iranian officials. Iran’s conditions to resume talks with the US are “an end to the war on all fronts, the start of negotiations on a timeline for Israeli full withdrawal from southern Lebanon, the release of frozen funds, the lifting of the naval blockade, the lifting of newly imposed sanctions, an end to military threats, and an oil waiver”.
